I'm not going to lie, I had my doubts about Scrubs: Med School when I first heard about it. After all...Turk and JD's legendary bromance is...well, legendary. How can chocolate bear be chocolate bear without his vanilla bear? I was absolutely aghast when I first heard the idea that they were bringing it back sans Zach Braff, but after last night I'm removing my hat and thusly eating it. (Mmm cotton) Bill Lawerence, I don't know why I ever lost faith in you to begin with. You, sir are a comedy genius and I will hereby abide by your every wish and command. For those of you that missed it, here's a quick intro of the new characters:
Dr. Denise Mahoney (Eliza Coupe): Not entirely a new character, Denise made her first appearance last season when JD likened the abrasive intern who lacked people skills to Jo from the Facts of Life. This year, she's a doctor and appears to be the resident advisor for the new med students.
Lucy (Kerry Bishe): From the looks of it, she's a cross between JD and Elliot...as if they had a med student baby. I could be REALLY harsh right now and say now I understand why some people never wanted them together, but that's mean. She's taken the place of the Most Hated on Dr. Cox's watch list, and has dealt with her own struggles. But if she's the replacement for JD...not working for me.
Drew (Michael Mosley): Rather strapping lad, who's failed out of med school once already but has made his way to be Dr. Cox's #1 student. Seriously, he was made to wear a sign that said #1.
Cole (Dave Franco): I can't say enough about Cole, the med student who feels entitled to act any way he pleases because his parents are major donors to the hospital. He's the typical playboy, white guy trying to be smooth. He enjoys hitting on Denise and telling people that they can't get rid of him. Please, please don't redeem him. Please let him remain the snotty, little punk that he is. And give him more lines like "She's my wing-mom" and "I got to cut the ribbon with a big pair of scizzies" cause those lines are AWESOME.
Cox, Kelso, JD and Turk were all present for the beginning and it'll be weird to see them go. Props to Zach Braff for bringing us yet another perfect EAAAGGGLLLLEEE as well as "Mmm, you smell like a prison."
So far Scrubs The College Years Med School gets two very enthusiastic thumbs up from me.
In promotional product news, (yet still related to TV) we all know how much I love going to out and returning with a promotional product. This afternoon at lunch I trekked over to the Verizon office to pick up my new HD cable box (score!) and snagged myself a goodie. As I signed away my old, non-high definition boring black cable box for a nifty new silver one, I was already ridiculously excited. I mean hello...tonight I get to watch GLEE in HD! And finally having a Series 2 TiVo will be beneficial as I can officially record 2 shows at once! And my TiVo will be normal again!
So imagine me, THAT excited and then seeing the VZ employee whip out a promotional non-woven tote bag for me to carry my new box in. Firstly, we should just clarify that I love nothing more than a non-woven tote. I use them for groceries, and for schlepping stuff around. I got back to the office, checked with Sarah E (our merchandising guru) and confirmed that it was in fact the Polytex Large Convention Tote. Isn't it pretty?
And now for an unofficial review. It's lightweight, yet extremely durable (I'm toting around an HD cable box here!) and the straps are the perfect length. They're long enough for it to be an actual tote bag, but not long enough to cause the bag to be difficult to handle. In fact, when slinging it over my shoulder I couldn't help but think that it was an absolute pleasure to carry. And yes, I did really think that? Weird, perhaps but the promotional product reviewer in me thinks things like that. My favorite part? After the nice lady at VZ put the box in, she made sure it was secure using the velcro tab at the top of the bag! Fun!
A wonderful Scrubs, GLEE in HD, and now a new free promotional tote bag. Who's day was awesome? Yeah, that would be mine.
