With reality shows dominating what's on TV these days, I can't wait for series premieres of some quality shows. I boycott all reality TV, which leaves slim pickings. This summer was a major disappointment in terms of television. I picked back up with Royal Pains, on USA. The show is about a NYC doctor who moves to the Hamptons and becomes a "concierge doctor." It has an interesting concept, but I feel like somehow I always miss something between summers. I stopped about halfway through this year.
I also tried out Franklin and Bash on TNT: a show about two unconventional lawyers who are best friends going way back and work at the same firm. I figured with Mark-Paul Gosselaar (Zach Morris from Saved by the Bell) and Breckin Meyer, how could it be bad? It turned out to be pretty disappointing to my surprise. The two main characters were amazing and played fantastically off of each other with great chemistry, but you didn't get to see very much of that. I'll give it another chance next summer, but hopefully the writers decide to use the best part of the show to their full advantage: Mark-Paul and Breckin.
Now that all of my summer shows have ended, I've moved on to an old staple: Friends reruns. As much as I love that classic, it's time for something new...
One show I'm particularly interested in this season is Once Upon a Time, on ABC. The series premier is October 23rd, which is way too far away as far as I'm concerned. For all you Lost lovers out there, myself included, you'll appreciate that executive producers Adam Horowitz and Edward Kitsis are the same great minds that brought us Lost. Let's just hope this series has a better ending. But I'm getting too far ahead of myself here; it hasn't even started yet!
I'm having trouble envisioning what this show will actually be like even with ABC's series synopsis. It sounds dark and twisted, but with House's Jennifer Morrison (Dr. Cameron), I can't imagine it being too dark. Either way, it's definitely one for the DVR.
