Anybody who follows late-night television knows the drill: A popular host is repeatedly promised the coveted 11pm time slot, and yet it's never delivered. This was the predicament in which Conan O'Brien found himself in 2010, when he was denied from hosting NBC's The Tonight Show. Instead, Conan ended his long-term relationship with network, and launched a few projects of his own.
The performer organized a 32-city tour in an attempt to reach fans without the help of NBC. Conan has also since successfully put into motion his own television show on TBS, Conan. However, few know what went on behind the scenes in between projects.
Conan fans can get a step closer to understanding the comic genius and his decision to move on and away from NBC. According to an article on VernongMorningStar.com, those who follow the star can learn more about what went on after he left NBC in a soon-to-be-released documentary, Conan O'Brien Can't Stop. The article's author reports that the documentary was "a hit at Toronto's recent Hot Docs film festival" and that it is "an intimate portrait of an artist trained in improvisation, captured at the most improvisational time of his career."
Until the July 7 release date, fans will have to anxiously grip their promotional stress relievers in anticipation. And while the star is sure to be as much of a hit in theaters as he's been on the road, we hope he doesn't forget about his deep-seeded television roots.
