Grey's Anatomy Season Premier!

I still love grey's anatomy in spite of its overwhelming soap-opera-like qualities and drama (not because of it) though I realize I'm in the minority here. Either way, Grey's fans everywhere are dying to find out what happens to Meredith and Derek this season. If you're like me and feel like it's been so long since the season finale, you're going to need a recap before tonight's premier...

Meredith and Derek Drama: In the latest episode of Grey's Anatomy, Meredith and Derek's relationship is put to the test when Meredith refuses to answer any questions regarding accusations of tampering with the Alzheimer's trial. When the chief finds out she switched the placebo for the active ingredient for Adele, he is grateful but has no choice but to turn the matter over to the FDA and suspend Meredith. Derek simply doesn't understand her decision and accuses her of not knowing the difference between right and wrong, which Meredith interprets as doubts about her becoming a good mother. When the episode ends and the couple finally gets custody of Zola (the child they've been trying to adopt), Derek is nowhere to be found. He hasn't answered Meredith's calls all day and has no idea that Zola is officially theirs.

Cristina and Owen Drama: Cristina is six weeks pregnant and doesn't want to keep the baby despite Owen's desperate attempts to convincer otherwise. She makes an appointment to terminate anyway, and Owen kicks her out of the house. Not surprisingly she goes to Meredith to break the news, but she is consumed with her own problems.

Mark and Lexie Drama: Lexie warns Mark to stay away from her and Jackson when he gives them his blessing. He had faulted Jackson before for quitting the chief's trial, but he has a change of heart when he realizes that Jackson actually quit to save the trial.

Teddy and Henry Drama: Teddy doesn't understand that Henry is in love with her or that her plans to go to Germany with another man combined with her frequent visits are torturing him. Eventually she realizes that she is actually falling in love with Henry and kisses him. It doesn't look like she's going to leave anytime soon.

Chief-Resident Drama: Alex is out of the running for chief resident when he blows the whistle on Meredith for messing with the trial. Owen had planned to pick him up until this point and instead chooses April Kepner. (Oh yeah, and Meredith kicks Alex out of her house.)

Other Noteworthy Drama: Bailey takes the crash pretty hard because she and her son have taken that same flight numerous times. Eli tries to comfort her, and she realizes that it's time for him to be a part of their lives outside of work and meet her son. On the other hand, Alex and Lucy's relationship comes to an end when she asks him to fight for her not to go to Africa and he tells her to go to hell.

But wait: this show is about doctors in a hospital, isn't it?

Medical Drama: Seattle Grace is the designated crisis center for a 757 plane that crashed in the water, but no victims ever arrive at the hospital. Families have gathered awaiting news on the survivors, but soon find out that there are none. After hours of telling the heart-breaking news to the families, the hospital receives a phone call that there is on little girl still alive - the sole survivor flying alone. She needs surgery. A mother of one of the victims who overhears that they have not yet located the girl's family decides to stay to show her support, and many other families follow her lead. The girl's mother finally arrives and the families disperse, but the woman who inspired the other families doesn't have the heart to tell her that her son had died. It is actually quite a beautiful sentiment to see the best in people brought out in a time of crisis.

And that was the season finale in a nutshell. My prediction is that Derek and Meredith will eventually (after a little more drama) make up. I mean, how can they not? They've been the driving force of this show since day one. I can't wait to see the two-hour premiere tonight!
