New York City has to be one of the best backdrops for a television show. From its soaring skyscrapers to its pretty parks, the city's got plenty of stand-out scenery. It's no wonder, then, that a record "23 television series are now being filmed in New York City," as reported by New York's ABC 7.

The announcement about NY's new record was made by Mayor Bloomberg and Media & Entertainment Commissioner Katherine Oliver. The two are also excited about the 100,000 jobs that have been created due to the television programs, according to ABC 7. "Thousands of New Yorkers are hard at work building sets, making costumes and scouting locations for the record 23 new and returning TV shows that film here," said Mayor Bloomberg. "We're working to strengthen and diversify New York City's economy and create jobs, and our thriving entertainment industry is a prime example of those efforts paying off."
Additionally, according to the Hollywood Reporter, NYC-based shows are in line for a record-breaking 110 Primetime Emmy nominations. New York is clearly seeing tons of success in its production and entertainment industries. So much, in fact, that while "the U.S. has lost 5.6 percent of its private sector jobs," New York City "has lost only .3 percent," said Bloomberg

In a time of financial distress, the boom of this economy-supporting industry is quite welcome. Now let's just hope none of these TV shows get canceled!
