It was Fallon himself who said on his show, "Who needs the cast of Saved by the Bell, when you've got the cast of California Dreams."

And it is I who is saying "Truer words were never spoken, Mr. Fallon."

On March 4th, at around 9PM my phone beeped indicating that I had a text message. And then another. And then another. My friend Meg texted me the same thing 15 times: "OMG! California Dreams reunion tonight on Jimmy Fallon." She apologized saying that her phone was messed up after the fact, but I responded that there were no apologies necessary. 15 texts is a completely appropriate number for an announcement of that magntitude. Well, worth the OMG as well.

Yes, its true. Jimmy Fallon made millions of formerly young girls dreams come true. He re-united the cast of the hit NBC show that ran immediately following Saved by The Bell and that I loved just as much, if not more. The show told the tale, quite hysterically, of a group of California high school students who were in a band, aptly named California Dreams. Every show, there was a performance and I'm not ashamed to admit that I have nearly all of said performances on my iPod. I'm currently listening to Handle It with Care, just in case you were wondering, but I'll probably turn on my absolute favorite, Let Me Be the One. It's from the classic episode where Tiffany got together with Sly, a personal favorite that I had taped (remember those things, VCRs?) back in the day.

The show ran for 5 glorious season and inevitably, it had to end. They were high school students, after all. So the show faded off into the California sunset and left us all, but it appeared in syndication at times. And those were the best of times. It's only recently been put on DVD, and if anything deserves a hearty Sly Winkle-style BA BOOM! that does. Judging by the fact that Fallon's reunion was picked up by plenty of entertainment blogs and reports, even causing "California Dreams" to be trending on Twitter, there's still a market out there. And when my 16 year old cousin asked me "what my facebook status meant" I responded simply: before there was Glee, there was California Dreams. I can finally introduce the younger generation to the wonderful romance between Tiffany and Jake. I can finally make more people understand why when I get excited I sometimes yell Ba Boom! And I can have unlimited access to all those wonderful songs and all the hilarity that went along with it.

Fallon's reunion may or may not result in an increase in DVD sales, but I'll tell you this much: It made many many fans of the show (yours truly included) very happy. And I attribute my happiness to seeing the whole cast back together again, not just the fact that Michael Cade took off his shirt. Although, having watched the segment first thing in the morning (god bless you DVR), that's a brilliant way to say good morning. And you know I did a bit of googling and guess who I found on twitter: @BrentleyGore and @MichaelCade! Matt and Sly! The twitterverse just got so much more awesome.

So go follow them and go buy the California Dreams DVDs. If you missed the reunion, check it out from Entertainment Weekly. And if you have to ask me why, even after reading this blog I'll simply tell you that surf dudes with attitude are kinda groovy.
