The 2011 Emmy Nominations were announced this morning. There's a lot of good tv on right now, so some great shows and performers didn't make the cut. This is understandable.. but there were a couple of pretty obvious omissions!

Best Series, Drama

'Dexter' did not have a strong season, yet it is one of six nominees in this category. What show is missing? 'Justified'! Timothy Olyphant, Walton Goggins, Margo Martindale, and Jeremy Davies were all nominated in acting categories, so how could the show they're acting on not be nominated?

Best Supporting Actor, Comedy Series

I'm a season behind on 'Modern Family' and am really looking forward to catching up. It's a really funny show, but how can FOUR actors from that show be nominated in this category.. when Nick Offerman (Ron Swanson on 'Parks and Recreation') is not?

Maybe Motivators TV should order some promotional awards and have our own awards show!

While I've enjoyed the videos (and taken part in some of them) on Motivators TV, I've never blogged here. I enjoy TV and sometimes will discuss a show or two with friends, yet I haven't had anything to really write about. This has changed. I was on my honeymoon last week and said to my wife, "Give me the camera! I have to take a picture so that I can write a blog..."

I'll start at the beginning. We went to Aruba for our honeymoon. We stayed at the beautiful Renaissance Resort. This hotel is not located near most of the hotels in Aruba; it is right on Main Street in downtown Aruba. This location had its advantages, but a disadvantage is that we weren't right on the beach. How do they make up for this? The Renaissance Resort has its own private island just off Aruba. There is a shuttle that takes you there and then you're in your own little world. There are 40 acres that include two beaches and an area to hike through nature.

Now, being LOST fans, we immediately began referring to this private place as "The Island." A tropical beach bordered by trees, crystal clear water, and less than a couple of dozen people? I'm sure we weren't the first to make a connection. Of course there are differences.. like the fact that we could buy food and drinks rather scavenge.. or that we arrived on a little boat that came and went every 15 minutes rather than (spoiler alert) plunging from the air in a plane crash.

This little slice of heaven wasn't my inspiration to blog. It was just something that I could tell friends who also watch LOST. But then we were back on the main island of Aruba, eating at The Plaza Cafe. The hat of a woman in the restaurant next door caught my eye, which was when I said "Give me the camera! I have to take a picture so that I can write a blog..."

That's when it all came together... LOST vs. NCIS... Anthony vs. Sarah... the Motivators TV blog. I was on an island where the only TV show that came to mind was LOST, and then bam, NCIS shows up. A few days later, after a busy morning and early afternoon, Laurie and I returned to the hotel room and she took a nap. I wish I could have also, but I'm not a napper. So I flick around our 10 available channels and come across the beginning of an episode of a show I'd never seen.. you guessed it, NCIS.

After visiting "The Island" and seeing the NCIS hat, I knew I had to watch it. If not for those two factors, I would have turned off the TV and picked up my book. But if I was going to blog, I had to be better informed. Laurie took her usual 3 hour nap, so I watched 3 consecutive episodes of NCIS.

Here's where I stand: NCIS is not LOST. Don't get mad Sarah! It's also not the worst show on TV. I don't want to borrow the DVDs and watch the entire series, but if I was stuck in the nap situation again and it was on, I'd watch it rather than picking up a book.

Someone wearing an NCIS hat was able to enjoy their time on "The Island." I'm sure we can all find some common ground on this blog. Anthony brought up a good point in a previous blog... Arrested Development was a great show. I think that it can hold us all together. Or maybe it was summed up best by Jack: "Live together or die alone."
